Before you saw a picture of "the back hills" located in Unalakleet. This is another picture of them, but in the Fall season. It is these hills which I went back into on a snow machine (snow mobile) to look for caribou and just see the tundra. In the foreground you can see part of the river that runs through Unalakleet. Every year there is a fantastic salmon run that comes through this river, which is where most of the people who live there probably get their ample supply for the year! It is really good fish! In the middle of the picture you can just see "happy village," sort of an unofficial subdivision in the town. There most of the houses are the same, and house low-imcome natives. Of course, not all natives live there, and some who do live there have great jobs. Even in Unalakleet the houses do not have numbers... everyone has a PO Box. The roads (all 5 miles of them) are gravel. Unalakleet is only accessible by boat or by plane.
