Why I Was in China

So just why was I in China in the first place? While living in Unalakleet, Alaska, I began to learn a lot about the Eskimo culture: their beliefs, their foods, their ways of life, and their traditions. I found everything I learned to be fascinating ; I wanted more! At the same time, God put it on my heart to go back into Christian education. As a result, I began to look for a jobs at a Christian schools overseas. I figured that serving in a Christian school would be a great way to be obedient to God, and an international school would allow me to learn about a new culture, something I was interested in.

I soon found myself applying with the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS), an organization based in Southaven, MS. As the name implies, all of the schools within the network are Christian, and are located all over the world. I was assigned to the NICS school in Kunming, China.

I was transferred out of China and into Suriname by NICS mid-way through the year. I was in China from August-December 2001. I then went to the American Cooperative School in Paramaribo, Suriname, South America.
