Alone in a Room

I sit in silence,
unadorned by sound,
unadorned by distraction.
Trapped,
the walls close in
all around me, and
I strain my ears-
for the sound of footsteps,
voice, or phone.
Nothing.
The quietness rings loudly in my ears.
Forlorn, I open my mouth--
but speak no words.
Time passes slowly by.
When, where, and how old will I be?
when the darkness finally comes.
